Jersey Subs--Soldotna:   Our favorite sandwich shop, for authentic east coast style subs with fresh made baguette and high quality ingredients.  Our family favorite is the hot Pastrami & Swiss, which only comes in a 10" size for $9.00--get it with the works--sauerkraut, grey poupon, and horseradish.  You can practically feed a whole family on just one of these subs.  Their cold subs come in Minis (6"), 10", and 20".  Their Philly Cheesesteak is awesome too.  They have several locations including Soldotna on the Sterling Hwy just past Petro Express, in Kasilof at Coho Loop, in Ninilchik on the Highway, and coming soon to Kenai.  Say hi to Kathy & Chris for us--Jersey Subs is a sponsor on the Kenai Riverfront Rental Boats.  Call ahead for take-out or delivery in the Soldotna area 260-3343.  Breakfast subs available for those early morning outings too.  The truly divey dining room offers seating for about 20 too.  $$$

The Moose is Loose--Soldotna:  This is your typical gourmet local donut shop & bakery, with everything from the basic glazed blueberry donut (my personal favorite) to roadkill cinnamon rolls (like an elephant ear), eclairs, muffins, and all sorts of custom breads and rolls.  Try the "Augustine Volcano Bread" for a round bread choc full of all sorts of healthy stuff.  Make great sandwiches!  Located on the "strip", west side of the Sterling Hwy, a solid city block between Jersey Subs and McDonalds.  $$$

Grand Burrito--Soldotna:  A mix of mexican, homemade burgers, and pizza make this small hole-in-the-wall a good choice for the mixed palate of a family or group of fishermen.  Decent prices, nice service overall.  Located on the "strip" in Soldotna Highway, just south of the "Y" on the west side of the Sterling Hwy.  Look for Napa Auto parts or the Auto Spa and you'll find it between in a small strip mall.  $$

Dairy Queen--Soldotna ONLY:  If you're cravin' a blizzard, having travelled all this way to Alaska, our little town won't let you down!  Located on the east side of the Sterling Hwy strip, just before you cross the Kenai River bridge heading south. $

Subway--Soldotna, Kenai, K-Beach, Homer:  The usual Subway fare.  Drive-thru is on K-Beach, Soldotna is in the Peninsula Center Mall behind McDonalds on the Sterling Hwy, and in Kenai in front of Home Depot.  $

Taco Bell--Soldotna:  If you run for the border, the Canadian one, and keep going North, then turn south, you'll find Taco Bell here in Soldotna.  You're on your own from here.  $

McDonalds--Soldotna, Kenai, Homer:  Open 24 hours in summer, somedays it may be all you get if you fish too late or get up too early!  $

Carl's Junior--Kenai:  New to town.  The jury is still out.  Plenty of TV commercials of big greasy burgers though. $

Arby's--Soldotna, Kenai:  Sandwiches, salads, wraps, and don't forget the curly fries.  Our kids prefer their chicken strips over all others.  Pass the BBQ sauce please...  $
